I just recently finished watching the Obi-wan Kenobi mini-series, and I enjoyed it a lot. It was especially great to see Ewan McGregor back in the role of Obi-wan. In fact, that was what inspired me to create this fan-art charcoal study afterwards …
While I was drawing the picture, I realised how much effort the makeup team has put in to ensure that Ewan really does look like a younger Alec Guiness in this show. It’s very clever, really, and I hadn’t really noticed it that much before.
The show itself is entertaining, although there are some obvious holes and weaknesses in the plot. Some of them were actually a consequence of the movies before and after in the Star Wars timeline. This mini-series clearly had to fit within those existing parameters, while still remaining fresh and interesting, and so certain creative sacrifices have been made.
Can’t say too much more without giving things away, but this is definitely worth watching (even if you’re not a die-hard Star Wars fan), and makes a great addition to the canon.
